Current Exhibition
"Just a Moment"
1st April – 10th June 2012
Off The Slate is proud to be displaying the work of Featured Artist –
Jean Saul - Mosaic Artist.
Jean is a mosaic artist working with ceramic tiles fitted together to form beautiful art pieces which can be hung indoors or outside to give that garden wall a splash of colour.
Jean is inspired by her view of nature, and her garden. Does Jean have fairies in her garden – well that’s a secret and she’s not telling! Jean is never sure how her mosaic will look until it’s finished – she views it as a puzzle and is guided by form and colour fitting together to please the viewers eye.
Please enjoy the exhibition ‘Just a Moment’.

The gallery has three major exhibitions in March, July and November as well as another three changeovers of exhibition in January, May and September. 3-D art works are changed on a regular basis throughout the year. Come visit and spend some time browsing at your leisure, there is sure to be that something special for you.
About the Artists
Being
a collective of some 20 plus artists at any one time the works are
very diverse. Paintings are in all shapes, sizes, subjects and
mediums, from traditional landscapes to contemporary in nature, from
pastels, oils, collage and watercolours to framed and unframed
works.
When browsing you will encounter a range of unique little fellows hanging in the window, these are Willunga Jacks and Drifters created totally from found objects; upon looking down you will discover a stunning range of pottery with glazes made from the local slate.
The gallery is a treasure trove of art works, including slumped and hand decorated glass, beautiful wooden bowls, clocks and trays, mosaics to hang inside or out on the patio, magnificent lamps to hang or stand on the mantle, and there is so much more left for you to come and discover.
About the Gallery
Aptly
named after the local slate quarries that were established in the
early 1840’s.The Gallery is located in the main street of historic
Willunga South Australia in an old restored cottage, originally
built in the 1860’s. It was Samuel Paine’s tailor shop for about 30
years, then a butcher shop, newsagency and following renovations it
re-opened as Off the Slate Gallery in July
2005.
To
retain the authenticity of the original building the original slab
slate floor and a portion of the original corrugated iron ceiling
has been left exposed to view in the SLATE ROOM. Other features are
the thick stone walls and old fireplaces.
